Kim Lenz and the Jaguars “Follow Me”

(Riley) Fans of rockabilly, and attendees of international rockabilly fests, are very familiar with the work of the queen of that scene, but this new album may surprise some of her fans. While her growl is still intact, along with some yodels and croons, what’s different is that instead of rooting herself in the hillbilly bop of the 50s, this album finds her messing with some of the parallel scenes: the jazzy country of Patsy Cline, Jump R&B combo burners, even torchy 50s pop are all tackled, and while she may not have the pipes of a jazz vocalist, she has the soul to pull off these personal, original numbers. I dare you to listen to this without imagining the sexy Scopitones that should accompany each stellar song!
